One month ago I wrote about Ubuntu Jordan LoCo Team covering some of our activities and plans for the future which includes establishing a National Open Source office in Jordan which I understand that is a shocking news because it was very unexpected even for the team working on it but on the other side I received some emails asking if we're going to regulate Open Source work in Jordan and if there will be any kind of taxes.

My answer is LoL.

I agree that our government did not leave anything without a tax tag but I guess that's acceptable considering that we do not have natural resources other than citizens pockets and by the way we do pay taxes less than any other country that we admire and wish to immigrate to but lets keep this story for another time.

Anyway, the National Open Source office is about encouraging and boosting Open Source development in the Kingdom starting from advocacy work, training courses ending with providing enterprise open source solutions.

Another phobia that many people live with is if it's free then it's not good. well, maybe this is not a phobia but a passion to pay for things that you don't really need, like a super market with Oracle solution and actually it's not even a super market in the proper definition of super market.

Unfortunately we have people of that mentality that if you offer them for free because it's part of what you believe in or part of your day job they will start doubting if it's good or not and at later stage they will doubt if you can implement that service or not; because it was given for free or nominal fees.

For reason or another people don't believe that Jordanian can make a solution instead of using someone else solution and just implementing it although we are really capable in many fields but here is a funny thing, you could develop whatever you want and just tag it or give it a cool western name and people will fall in love with it and pay whatever you ORDER them to pay of course with your White Power tag only.
