Mesothelioma Cancer & Refugee camps

Yesterday Kinzi advised me again and again to quit smoking and she mentioned how her parents died because of smoking related cancer, God bless them they are in better place now.

That comment made me to start thinking seriously to quit smoking not because of death as I believe it's written but because I don't want to suffer not not nor when I become old man.

Because I don't usually listen to people I decided to start reading about cancer, it's Signs and symptoms and while searching I came across Mesothelioma cancer which is very interesting kind of cancers as I never thought that one could develop a cancer by getting exposed to asbestos.

Wikipedia -
Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is almost always caused by previous exposure to asbestos.[1] In this disease, malignant cells develop in the mesothelium, a protective lining that covers most of the body's internal organs. Its most common site is the pleura (outer lining of the lungs and chest cavity), but it may also occur in the peritoneum (the lining of the abdominal cavity) or the pericardium (a sac that surrounds the heart).

Most people who develop mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles, or have been exposed to asbestos dust and fibre in other ways, such as by washing the clothes of a family member who worked with asbestos, or by home renovation using asbestos cement products. There is no association between mesothelioma and smoking.[2]

Now, Why it's interesting ? because most of refugees camps in Jordan uses asbestos! same applies to refugee camps in Gaza, unfortunately it's widely used in refugees camps as if they need more reason to suffer

UNRWA -Today, most refugees live in crowded shelters and about 70 percent of shelter roofs are covered with asbestos sheeting.

Unfortunately we don't have the awareness of Mesthelioma nor what would be result of getting exposed to asbestos, I was shocked when I read that UNRWA provided asbestos roofing for Jabal al-hussein refugee camp, in their website there are no indicator when was that and if they still have the asbestos roofing.

UNRWA - The camp was set up in l952 for 8,000 refugees on an area of 421,000 square metres north west of Amman. The refugees replaced the original tents with more durable shelters and UNRWA provided asbestos roofing. The camp has since grown into an urban-like quarter and has become part of Amman.

Now the shocking news is that I might have been exposed to asbestos! Yes, I remember the old abu ayed shop which was in Jabal amman - First circling having ASBESTOS ROOFING! AND I USED TO DRINK PEPSI EVERY DAY IN THAT PLACE! now I guess I have to read more about the level of exposure that would develop Mesothelioma cancer mean while read about Mesothelioma best treatment information financial assistance

  1. How can they do that? Abestos has been known to cause cancer a looong time ago. As if refugees don't have a hard enough time.

Jad, glad you are thinking about quitting smoking.I have a number for a program through the Red Cross that is very successful and as soon as I find it in my paper stack, I'll send it!

  2. I don't know how or why, maybe it was the last resort or the cheapest thing they could offer and all depends on when that happen and if it's still there.

Hmm long time in the world or in Jordan? it's different khaltoo

I sent them an email asking when was that and if they still have the asbestos roofing, hope someone will respond to my questions.

I'll be waiting for your email khalto :-)

Dear Microsoft : It's over. Our relationship just hasn't been working for a while, and now, this is it. I'm leaving you for another Operating system. I know this isn't a good time--you're down with yet another virus. I do hope you feel better soon--really, I do--but I, too, have to move on with my life. Fact is, in the entire time I've known you, you seem to always have a virus or an occasional worm. You should really see a doctor. That said, I just can't continue with this relationship any longer. I know you say you'll fix things, that next time it'll go better--but that's what you said the last time--and the time before that. Each time I believed you. Well, not any longer. You cheater! The truth is there's nothing more you can say to make things better. I know about your secret marriage to patent. You say you two are not seeing each other anymore, but I just don't believe it. Saddam's novel to be published next week

AMMAN, Jordan: Saddam Hussein's family will publish next week a novel written by the ousted Iraqi leader before the US-led war on Iraq, his daughter said on Friday. "Ekhroj minha ya mal'un" whose title could be translated into "Get out, damned one" tells the story of a man called Ezekiel who plots to overthrow a town's sheik, but is defeated in his quest by the sheik's daughter and an Arab warrior. The story is apparently a metaphor for a Zionist-Christian plot against Arabs and Muslims. Ezekiel is meant to symbolize the Jews. Raghad Saddam Hussein said her father finished the novel on March 18, 2003 -- a day before the US-led war on Iraq began -- and had expressed a wish to publish the book under his name. The three other novels he wrote were simply signed "Its author." "It was my father's will to publish this book," Raghad said in a telephone interview.
